6 Nelson Hardiman Attorneys Recognized as Super Lawyers’ 2020 Southern California Rising Stars

Katherine Bowles, Kathryn Edgerton, Aaron Lachant, Lisa Montague, Michael (Akiva) Newborn, and Kristina Sherry were named to Super Lawyers 2020 Southern California Rising Stars. Super Lawyers selects attorneys using a patented multiphase selection process, combining both peer nominations, evaluations, and independent research. Each candidate is measured against 12 indicators of peer recognition and professional achievement. The Rising Stars list recognizes no more than 2.5 percent of attorneys in each state.

Katherine Bowles

Kate’s experience as a Registered Nurse brings an in-depth knowledge of the medical industry to her litigation practice. Her expertise includes a first-hand understanding of the challenges faced by medical practitioners. 2020 marks the third consecutive year that Kate has been recognized by Super Lawyers as a Rising Star.

Kathryn F. Edgerton

Kathryn is a Partner and key member of Nelson Hardiman’s Regulatory Compliance and Transactional practice groups. She has built a significant practice advising hospitals, addiction treatment centers, behavioral health providers, and health-related organizations drawing from her vast knowledge of complex transactional and regulatory issues. 2020 is the 6th consecutive year Kathryn has been recognized as one of Super Lawyers’ Rising Stars.

Aaron Lachant

Since 2009, Aaron has been at the forefront of the ever-changing cannabis industry. Aaron co-authored California’s Proposition D and has a comprehensive understanding of the complex regulatory compliance and licensing issues of dispensaries and related “cannabusinesses”. Aaron was listed as the Daily Journal’s Top 40 under 40 in 2018, citing his contributions to the medical marijuana industry. He was also recognized by Best Lawyers as one of the 2020 Best Lawyers in America.

Lisa Montague

A member of Nelson Hardiman’s finance practice group, Lisa represents cannabis investors and lenders, healthcare providers, including hospitals, physician organizations, long-term and behavioral care providers, telemedicine providers, and other healthcare-related organizations, in financial transactions.

Michael (Akiva) Newborn

Astute scrutiny runs through everything Michael (Akiva) Newborn does. He brings this intellectual acuity to his healthcare litigation practice based on a strong background in research and analysis of legal issues. Akiva represents healthcare providers in state and federal court in a wide range of litigation matters, including the False Claims Act and the Anti-Kickback Statute. He also advises healthcare providers on regulatory compliance issues.

Kristina Sherry

As a member of Nelson Hardiman’s Transactional and Compliance practice groups, Kristina represents a diverse array of healthcare providers. She advises hospitals, physician organizations, long-term and behavioral care providers, and other healthcare-related organizations in transactions and regulatory matters.
