Tara A. Davidoff, CIPP/US, serves as an essential member of Nelson Hardiman’s healthcare and life sciences Regulatory compliance practice. As a Certified Information Privacy Professional, Tara plays a leading role in the firm’s privacy practice. With more than two decades of experience, her nuanced understanding of industry regulations, compliance obligations, and complex transactional issues makes her an invaluable resource in providing comprehensive legal counsel and support to healthcare and life sciences clients, including negotiating and structuring agreements and advising on licensing, operations, and reimbursement agreements.

Before Nelson Hardiman

Tara spent more than a decade as a member of UCLA’s Technology Development Group, where she advised on medical research and development, drafting and negotiating agreements with biotech and pharmaceutical companies, and facilitating groundbreaking advancements. Her deep understanding of healthcare legal challenges, data protection issues, and intellectual property rights enabled her to foster key partnerships between academia and industry leaders. Tara oversaw a complex portfolio of legal matters supporting the David Geffen School of Medicine, including issues related to infectious disease, pulmonology, immunology, molecular genetics, and other areas of clinical research and development.

Prior to UCLA, Tara served as a Deputy City Attorney, handling dozens of trials and advocating for victims, children, and the safety and well-being of Los Angeles. She also worked for a leading Los Angeles law firm, focusing on land use transactional matters, where her ability to grasp nuance and craft tailored solutions to meet client needs proved instrumental. These experiences give her an ability to navigate complex client challenges with creativity, rigor, and the necessary experience to negotiate and advise in pursuit of the best possible outcomes.

Before embarking on her legal career, Tara cultivated her talents as a visual artist, actor, and musician. She also worked with Robin Leach on “Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous.” These creative endeavors continue to be a source of creativity, adaptability, and hone her keen eye for detail. Tara’s career trajectory – spanning from the arts to the courtroom, and from criminal law to civil law, litigation to transactional law – have provided her with a diverse skill set and a profound understanding of the life science and healthcare sectors’ legal intricacies.
